• The biggest problem in Lincoln currently is credit card fraud, which is not technically considered identity theft.
• The main identity theft problem in Lincoln involves illegal immigrants stealing the identities of others for employment purposes.
  • In doing this, the illegal immigrant obtains someone's name and social security number and uses these on their own employment forms.
  • The person whose identity has been stolen normally does not find out about the theft until they receive a letter from the IRS, claiming they have not reported and paid taxes on all of their income for the year.
