Connecting to the Wireless Network

Wireless Computing is available in the College of Business! The service is free to students, with a monthly fee assessed for employee use.

To gain access on the College's wireless network, users must have a wireless network card for their mobile computer. Most laptops have a wireless card built into the computer, but users with older laptops may have to purchase a PCMCIA wireless card. Any 802.11b/g built in or PCMCIA wireless card will be compatible with the wireless network on the entire UNL campus. To gain access, users are required to register the physical address of their wireless card with UNL.

Instructions

  1. Find and record the physical address of your wireless network card.
    1. Click on Start, then Run.
    2. Type "cmd" in the box and press Enter (leave the quotation marks out).
    3. In the box that appears, type "ipconfig /all" and press Enter (leave the quotation marks out).
    4. Find the Wireless Network Connection heading and write down the physical address of your wireless card. It should be 12 characters long, displayed similar to 00-0B-8D-33-98-D4.
