Financing Graduate Studies
There are virtually hundreds of financial assistance opportunities available to graduate students at Nebraska. These include fellowships, assistantships, scholarships and loans. Last year graduate students in the College of Business Administration received financial assistance of approximately $500,000.
The Office of Graduate Studies administers university-wide fellowships. More information about these sources of assistance is contained in the Graduate Studies Admissions Guide which describes a number of fellowships and their eligibility criteria and qualifications. Four university-wide fellowships that offer significant financial support to qualified graduate students include:
Applications for Graduate Fellowships can be obtained from The Office of Graduate Studies.
In addition to university-wide fellowships, a number of special fellowships are available through public and private foundations and governmental agencies. Although an initial screening process for these awards may be done by the University or the Management Department, final selection is made by the external agency. You may obtain information about these sources of funding by searching the reference section of your local or university library.
The most important source of funding for most graduate students is through their academic department. You may apply directly to the Management Department for potential research or teaching assistantships.
International students who have completed one year of study at a U.S. institution of higher education may apply for selected fellowships. The Office of Graduate Studies administers all graduate fellowships both endowed by the University and fellowships awarded by other organizations, including the AFGRAD (African Graduate Fellowship Program), and LASPAU (Latin American Scholarship Program of American Universities), and IIE (Institute of International Education)/Fulbright/CONACYT.
Loans are also available for students who need to borrow funds for college expenses. Inquiries should be made at the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid. This office also maintains information about other forms of financial support for graduate students.
