Jennifer Arbaugh

Jennifer Arbaugh

International business and marketing major, Jennifer Arbaugh, followed up her fall semester at Senshu University in Tokyo with an internship at the American Embassy in Tokyo. Working in the Commercial Service Office which is responsible for helping U.S. companies enter and conduct business in the Japanese marketplace, benefited both her areas of interest.

Her major project during the fall semester was to design a marketing informational flyer for the Japanese cosmetics industry to be distributed at an annual cosmetics trade show in Hong Kong. She produced such an accomplished piece that many other Commercial Service Officers plan to use the flyer as a model for their own promotional pieces.

Jennifer and Colin Powell

As part of the diplomatic corps, Jen met dignitaries as they passed through Japan including former Secretary of State, Colin Powell, and the Governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger. She was included in many of the social events held at the Ambassador’s official residence.

When not working, Jen took advantage of the opportunities offered to experience Japan. She attended the Grand Sumo tournament, traveled to Okinawa to scuba dive, made the 14 hour climb to the summit of Mt. Fuji, and visited with Japanese friends and practicing the Japanese language. “I experienced my first typhoon. I lived through so many typhoons and earthquakes that I lost count!”

“My experience only strengthened my interest in pursuing and international career in the Asian region, and I look forward to returning to Japan very soon.”
